STATUS: The lack of land and energy resources, sharp rise in the costs, technology development and above of all changing in lifestyle and family structure limit the using of single-purpose spaces in contemporary housing design. Flexibility is the key of this challenge Due to the building technology of traditional Iranian architecture, especially the use of thick and load bearing walls, rearranging the position of walls to make changes is impossible. But by a wise solution multiple entrances for each space, selective ability to connect or disconnect the house’s space to create a wide variety of functional configuration. Now the main concept in the dwelling units design is to combine the features of both modern houses and traditional Iranian houses in spatial Configuration. The proposed solution in this project is to configure the spaces flexibly so that they can have close relationships or no relationships anytime desired. The dining room can be a part of the kitchen or be in connection with the hall and the sitting room. The configuration and positioning the master bedroom, the kitchen and the dining room close to each other can define a small individual house inside a bigger one. The bedrooms can be separated from the other spaces by movable partitions and be used as guest rooms. The reception room can be related to other spaces or be a big , separated room for the users and the wc box that play the role of a functional joint for the other spaces and the movable partitions can be moved along it ‘s faces.
