PROJECT FACTS

Name:

GOLSHAHR MOSQUE AND SQUARE DESIGN

TYPE: competition

LOCATION: main square of Golshahr, Karaj

YEAR: 2017

CLIENT: Hajtarekhani foundation relief

PROJECT AREA: 2500

STATUS: This project is about a competition held in 2018 for a concept design for Golshahr square with a mosque in the middle of it. Golshahr is an urban district in Karaj- the nearest large city to Tehran. The district is being fully constructed during the city development, except an extensive land, possessed by a famous household. This land is now the subject of competition, although several plans had been designed until that time but no one succeeded to draw the client and municipality's attention or provide a comprehensive solution to the questions and ambiguities. We basically try to review the city’s history. The first point, concluded in the investigation, is that the whole city was full of gardens and green zones and was known as a country side for Tehran's rich people who spend their leisure time there, especially in summers. By huge amount of construction, these gardens were going to be diminished and nowadays only few of them exist. The main concept we follow to survive the remaining green zones and maybe in not far future extend their areas to connect each other . for this purpose the remote land of Golshahr can be the starting point. The connection way was assumed as a green path without vehicle access, providing a wide range of facilities for users especially pedestrians. To consider this path, firsly we transformed the vehicle path to underground and a local path was designed in border of the land. Secondly, we referred to a model that was implemented in Chaharbagh street in Esfahan, a very famous traditional path in Safaviyeh era, (display one of Iranian well-known urban design patterns) that began from Siosepol bridge and continued in straight direction until approaching to a royal zone. There were a great number of gardens by a building inside the middle, known as Koshk both sides of the path. This pattern could be reused for shape square landscape. Seven cultural, educational, and commercial centers that were asked in physical programs of competitions could be implemented at both sides of the main path described above. They are U-shaped and have a semi-closed court as a semi-privet open space for the buildings. The residential units are situated in the border of the land with local access. These units guarantee the security of human presence and night life of the whole complex.
